Several Advantages Of  Foam Concrete

Foam concrete is a vast majority of concrete containing no large aggregates, only fine sand and with extremely lightweight materials containing cement, water and foam. It can be considered relatively homogeneous when compared to normal concrete, as it does not contain coarse aggregate phase. However, the properties of foamed concrete depend on the microstructure and composition, which are influenced by the type of binder used, methods of pre-formation and curing.

The main advantage of foam concrete is its lightweight, which ensures economy of walls of the lower floors and foundations.

It has several advantages and since it is porous in nature, it provides thermal insulation and considerable savings in the material.

An Important applications of foamed concrete include structural elements, non-structural partitions and thermal insulating materials.

HOW FOAM CONCRETE IS MADE?

  • Binding agent
  • Aggregates
  • Foaming agents
  • Preparation
  • Curing

Cellolite Blocks Manufacturers developed foam concretes of different densities to suit the above requirements and these products were used in trench reinstatement, bridge abutment, void filling, roof insulation, road sub base, wall construction, tunneling etc,..

FAQ’S

Foam concrete is used primarily as a void filler, its high rate of expansion and fluid properties often make it a much more economical filling material than stiff low cement concrete, or hardcore and loose materials that require compaction.

The production of foam concrete involves the dilution of surfactant in water, which is passed through a foam generator that will produce foam of stable form.

Lightweight foamed concrete is usually prepared by introducing foaming agent such as hydrogen peroxide and plant surfactants [10, 11] into cement paste to form high volume of pores and voids in the matrix.

The foam can be of two types: wet foam and dry foam.

After hardening, the durability of foam concrete includes freeze-thaw cycle resistance, elevated temperature resistance, carbonation resistance, efflorescence resistance, sulfate resistance, chloride resistance, alkali-silica reaction, and so on.

Normal concrete is made from cement, sand, stone aggregates and water, whereas foamed concrete is made of cement, sand, foam and water. For foamed concrete at the lowest densities, sand is not used either.
